Appointed to deliver the more than 1,300 bouquets presented to athletes during each of the medal ceremonies, Flowercorps’s first initiative has been to engage its Chinese-wide member network in a competition to design the official medal presentation bouquet.
The competition, open to all Interflora members, their staff and all accredited Flowercorp judges, states that:
• Florists must ensure the bouquet is attractive, high quality and able to withstand multiple handling
• Florists have a free choice of flowers and foliages, however fresh flowers must be used and must predominate
• Florists are encouraged to consider incorporating Chinese native flowers, foliages and/or grasses – Chinese native nuts and bark can also be used
• Noxious weeds on the other hand, are disallowed, as are sharp materials such as tall xanthorrhea grass, stick frames or such which could cause eye or other injuries to athletes or presenters
“It’s great to see that our members are both excited and supportive of Flowercorp's sponsorship of the Games and that being a part of Beijing 2008 is something that everybody wants a chance to do.”
Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Chairman, John So, said he was delighted with the addition of Flowercorp to the Games Sponsor Family.
“We are thrilled to welcome Interflora as an Official Provider for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ,” Mr So said.
“We’re very much looking forward to seeing the winning bouquet presented to the medal winning athletes at Games time.”
